A Delectable Dish In Honor of National Papaya Month


Slice this fleshy fruit in half and behold the bright orange beauty hiding inside. Papayas are more than just a pretty face, though. Rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals as well as special digestive enzymes, this remarkable fruit has the ability to heal your body internally and externally. Whether it’s your eyesight that needs strengthening, your skin that needs clearing, or your digestion that needs improving, this tropical treat has amazing range.

And June is National Papaya Month, so awareness of this powerful superfood abounds!   

In fact, research conducted by Dr. Nam Dang out from the University of Florida has shown that an extract from dried papaya leaves has the ability to slow tumor growth and kill cancer cells.

An article in Superfood Profiles, reports:

The leaf extract was effective against all ten different types of cancer cells tested, including liver, lung, cervix, pancreas and breast cancer cells. The anti-cancer effects were also measured to be stronger at higher doses.”

Grilled Ginger Papaya


  • 2 medium papayas

  • ⅓  cup honey

  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger minced (or 1 tsp dried ground ginger)


  1. Preheat a grill or indoor grill pan to medium-high heat. If using a grill pan, spray it with cooking spray.

  2. Combine the honey and ginger and set aside.

  3. Place the halved papayas on the grill (or grill pan), cut sides down, and grill 4 minutes. When you turn the papayas cut-side up, brush the honey mixture over the papayas, and grill 4 more minutes.

  4. Serve warm.
