Donning your boots and going for a day hike or a longer backpacking trip is one of the joys of summer. Not only does it make for a great vacation, it may make for a healthier life.

Hikers are happier — hiking as an additional therapy can help people with severe depression feel less hopeless, depressed, and suicidal.
