Decided to host your own holiday party? As the date draws closer, a thought will eventually hit you like ol’ Santa (above) turning down his milk and cookies: all the food you’ve planned to make or order sounds delicious, and—oh no—what about the vegans in the crowd?
One of our favorite website/blogs for vegan advice and recipes is the superb Minimalist Baker hosted by two talented Portland-based writer/photographers, Dana and John. Their food styling and photography is so good, in fact, that they also host a video food-photography school (for a fee) that includes a prodigious 130+ videos.
Dana is “the recipe developer, content creator, and food photographer” and the “...author of Minimalist Baker’s Everyday Cooking, 31 Meals Cookbook and co-creator of The Food Photography School and the Essentials of Building a Great Food Blog Course.” John provides “all things technical, design, branding, and product development.”
They’re cooks with a conscience. Their interest in plant-based, gluten-free foods began with their own needs and progressed to an overarching mission of helping “everyone...benefit from incorporating more plants into their diets.”
Here are two samples of how “minimalist”-yet-delicious their recipes are. We like both their Vegan Hot Chocolate and Vegan Sugar Cookies. What could be more holiday-delicious than these?
Go to their website to enjoy Dana’s most-enjoyable quips, directions and descriptions. She doesn’t write recipes using the normal stack of ingredients followed by instructions format. Instead, her recipes are narratives, with lots of humor, advice, savvy, and some technical terms like “hubba hubba.” We can only share the links—anything else would be an injustice not to mention a possible copyright infringement (hubba hubba). Enjoy!
