Ewan McGregor comes from Scotland, an actor who has starred in movies and musicals alike.

He joined the Perth Repertory Theatre when he was 16 to pursue his acting goal.

So he studied drama for a year at Kirkcaldy in Fife and then went on to London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama for three years.

He left just before graduating because he already snagged himself a role of Private Mick Hopper in Lipstick On Your Collar. A very notable role was playing Alex Law in Shallow Grave.

Of course, he became a very well-known name after appearing in Trainspotting.

He lives in Los Angeles now and is a dad of four. He split from his wife in 2017 and is said to be dating a former co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Workout Principles

It is said that Ewan doesn’t really like the gym. He is bored when he sees the weights, the circuit training, and the treadmills.

He much prefers getting his workouts in the outdoors.

He likes to jog 5 miles at a time.

Sometimes he will go up to 8 miles.

In preparation for the Star Wars Obi-Wan series, Ewan worked with his personal trainer on the P90X workout DVD.

What is it?

It’s the brainchild of Tony Horton who is Ewan’s personal trainer.

It consists of a whole range of moves and exercises that keep your metabolism boosted. It also boosts fat loss.

On it, you will find plenty of cardio exercises, strength training, yoga, plyometrics, and Kenpo Karate.

Each workout is around 75 minutes for six days a week.

It is aimed at improving your overall strength, burning fat, and stabilizing your core.

Every week, the focus changes, it is never repetitive, giving your body time to recover as you work other muscles.

Training Methods

It’s become quite the norm these days for Hollywood actors to get ripped for roles.

Apart from that, the action roles have become a lot more intense and detailed over the past few years.

So when it came to the Obi-Wan series, McGregor also had to roll up his sleeves and start flexing some muscles for his life-saving battles.

But he says his first workout method is always running.

“I find that it’s nice for your brain. It’s sort of a little bit of zen.”

But he had to do some strength training, too, so that he could wield the lightsaber properly and also perform stunts in some of the fight scenes.

“For months, we’ve been doing these monster, two-and-a-half-hour sessions of sword fights and hand-to-hand stuff,” says McGregor.

Playing Jedi is a physical role, he says, and after all, he had to make sure that he could defend young Luke Skywalker.

Workout Routine

Ewan McGregor has certainly managed to stay looking youthful and fit.

He says he doesn’t really engage in any particular workout routines.

He does do a lot of outdoor exercises, however. Here is his outdoor workout routine lifestyle. His personal trainer is Tony Horton.

He did the PS90X Workout challenge with Tony in 2018 and has been prepping for his Obi-Wan series which is due for release in 2022.

Monday

Run outdoors for 5-8 miles

Tuesday

Rest or be active. If he gets active, he will have an exercise day where he does sports that he loves, such as hiking or biking outside, etc.

Wednesday:

Run outdoors for 5-8 miles

Thursday:

He does the same routine as on Tuesday.

Friday:

Run outdoors for 5-8 miles

Saturday:

He does the same routine as on Tuesday.

Sunday:

Run outdoors for 5-8 miles

He says the best piece of advice he got was:

“The first job I ever did was a TV series called Lipstick on Your Collar, by a brilliant TV writer called Dennis Potter. At that point, it was my first piece of work, and he was saying:

‘Look, when you see this, you’re going to be offered stuff, and you’re going to want to do all of it.’ And he told me [I] should be careful to do the right thing next, and the next piece of work [I] do is always very important.

So I think I—I hope I did that.”
