Workout Principles of Gwyneth Paltrow

Even though she is 49-years old already, she still rocks in a two-piece swimsuit.

That’s because she takes such good care of herself!

Getting into that good shape hasn’t been the easiest thing for Gwyneth though.

To achieve all she has achieved, her workout principles have been pushed to the limit. Plus, she has followed a super-clean, healthy diet.

Gwyneth has always been a fan of her friend Tracy Anderson’s workouts. And Gwyneth has been a fan of her 30-day method.

Of Tracy’s workouts, Gwyneth says, “When I first started working with Tracy, finding motivation was hard. She advised me to think of exercise as an automatic routine, no different from brushing your teeth, to avoid getting distracted. Now it is part of my life.”

  • She does 45 minutes of cardio five days a week, using Tracy’s high-density dance workouts.
  • She does muscular structure work for 45-minutes through yoga – toning, realigning, and strengthening. If she has a big event or concert or something coming up, she increases her workouts to two hours a day, six days a week.
  • She also does Tracy’s aerobics classes.

Gwyneth says of her trainer, Tracy, She completely changed my legs, butt, arms, and stomach. I feel better than ever, too.”

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Training Methods

To train, Gwyneth believes in a couple of clean habits; one is clean eating, and another is clean sleeping.

These are what ensure that she has clean training methods as well.

  • She told Daily Mail UK that she gets at least 7-8 hours of good quality sleep every night, sometimes even 10 hours. She says that it’s sleep that plays such a powerful role in her life – that it determines her energy and appetite levels. She quotes her nutrition expert, Frank Lipman, who says “poor-quality sleep can be unsettling for the metabolism and hormones, which can lead to weight gain, bad moods, impaired memory, and brain fog, as well as serious health concerns such as inflammation and reduced immunity.”
  • Apart from her clean sleeping habits, Gwyneth also adopted a great self-care approach to how she leads her life. She experiments with many different things to give her body all the support it needs. She says she tries to meditate and she takes an infrared sauna which she finds really detoxifying. She says she is yet to try cryotherapy.
  • She says she feels her best when she exercises, that’s what she told Women’s Health. Being an investor in the Tracy Anderson Method, Gwyneth says, “When I started doing her method, I had 20 pounds to lose, and I had just had a baby, so I did it six days a week for a long time. I did it for so long it’s in my DNA now.”

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Workout Routine

Gwyneth Paltrow does work out frequently.

Every week she does 45 minutes of cardio 5 times a week – sometimes her cardio includes dancing from her trainer, Tracy Anderson.

She also does 45 minutes of strengthening yoga routines 5 times a week.

If she has an event coming up then she will even increase her workouts from 45 minutes to 2 hours and then do that 6 times a week.

A typical class of Tracy’s will include dancing warm-ups and floor work, consisting of leg movements like leg lifts.

A workout will usually end with stretching.

Gwyneth will hold a broomstick and do the following exercises:

1) Leg work

  • Plié sweep
  • Kick and reach
  • Butt busters
  • T-Pole holds
  • The “S” Sit
  • Behind-the-Back Honer

Gwyneth will do 20-30 repetitions of each of these.

2) Ab workout

These will also consist of 30 repetitions:

  • Knee-pull crunch
  • Sit-Up and split
  • Cross and kick
  • Cross leg reach
  • Cross leg crunch
  • Wisting kick
  • Running split crunch

When she is doing these exercises, she usually wears ankle weights to increase the challenge.

Then she does three sets of these exercises three times a week

  • Plank up-down, 30 reps, switch arms as you go
  • Side lift to rolling plank, 30 reps on each side
  • Wide-splint crunch, 30 reps

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Diet Plan

Gwyneth is a great fan of the macrobiotic diet

  • This diet was developed back in 1920 by the Japanese philosopher George Obsawa. Its principles are based on eating simple and healthy foods that are free of toxins. That’s how Gwyneth tries to eat. So she eats organic whole grains and veggies that are locally sourced. She has just a small amount of organic poultry and fish.
  • Gwyneth makes sure she has regular detoxes.
  • Her weekend treats are a glass of red wine in the evening and she says she smokes a cigarette on a Saturday; her naughty moments, she says. And her recipe that is her go-to recipe is the Mexican green goddess dressing. It’s made from goat’s yogurt, honey, coriander, and jalapenos. She loves to drizzle this sauce over her chicken and salads.

These are the foods that Gwyneth won’t eat:

  • Alcohol
  • Refined carbs
  • White sugar
  • Processed food
  • Caffeine

Here is an example of meals taken from her cookbook which Gwyneth likes to eat:

Breakfast
  • Poached egg, turkey bacon, and garlic spinach
  • A sweet-potato muffin
Lunch
  • Duck broth with soba
  • Lobster club salad
  • A bean salad with grilled prawns
Evening meal
  • Healthy Fried rice with kale
  • Healthy risotto with peas
  • Tuna ginger burgers

Gwyneth doesn’t eat a lot at breakfast time.

Instead, she rather mixes her GoopGlow into some water and downs that. It contains antioxidants and vitamin C.

She has this while she is working out at the gym.

When she is finished working out she will make sure she has protein like a peanut butter protein bar or a protein smoothie.

Gwyneth has detox cleanses

Goop is well known for promoting detox cleanses, but Gwyneth doesn’t do too much of them.

She does one once a year. Sometimes if she is trying out something for her company she will do one. The one she follows is the detox cleanse.

Every year when she does her detox she eliminates these things from her diet for six days:

  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Gluten
  • Alcohol
  • Corn
  • Tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, potatoes)
  • Refined sugar
  • Soy
  • Eggs
  • White rice
  • Shellfish

Going on the detox cleanse, she says it helps her to feel at her best; she is less bloated, and it feels like her skin becomes firmer.

But she knows too, that if you become too restrictive with your diet, you can want to binge or “let go” a bit.

So when she is on vacation or on special weekends, for instance, she will drink her wine, eat cheese on bread and even have fries.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Supplements

Even though Gwyneth eats a clean diet, she takes a few extra supplements. She takes a good multivitamin, omega-3, and a “few other herbs for various things.”

She has her own line of vitamin supplements in any case.

Many have wondered what Gwyneth’s secret recommendations are for maintaining such a youthful appearance.

  • Her diet is mostly clean ensuring she focuses on proteins and veggies.
